Is John McCain Playing the Race Card?
By: Ironside

While the McCain campaign in a new ad claims that Barack Obama is "the biggest celebrity in the world" they elect to compare the Democratic candidate for President to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton rather than the likes of maybe Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, or George Clooney. Could that be because they are male celebrities and it wouldn't have the same message as two white women? Is there a hidden message here as we've seen rightwing campaigns of the past use before? John McCain said, "All I can say is we’re proud of that commercial."

McCain Donors Include the Hilton's

Campaign Donor records show William Hilton has donated $18,400 to the McCain campaign, and $35,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee over the past two years. Paris Hilton's father also donated $6900 to the McCain campaign. As generous as these donations have been it hasn't stopped John McCain from smearing their grand daughter or daughter (whatever the case may be). John McCain has "approved" and aired a campaign ad that makes a mockery of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears in an attempt to belittle Barack Obama. How immature and insulting to the American People can John McCain get?

McCain's Campaign Ad

Deja Vu?

While clearly more subtle, this ad reminds us of the racist ad ran by Bob Corker in his Senate bid against Harold Ford, where at the end of the ad a blonde woman says "Harold call me" in a seductive tone then winks, suggesting an interracial relationship between a black man and a white woman. Many would argue that the ad worked as Corker went on to win the race by a slim margin.
